What Is a Shape Code and Why Should I Care?

What Is a Shape Code and Why Should I Care?

Ever wonder why different light bulbs have different shapes? And what bulb you should install where? Wonder no more, the Cree Lighting Shape Code Cheat Sheet™ is here to help.

A-Type

A-type bulbs probably look familiar. They’re the classic household bulb shape you put in your lamps and ceiling fans. Our A-types are A15, A19, A21, and A23. They’re all the same shape with different diameters, and they’re all equipped with a Medium E26 base that makes them easily paired with most of your household fixtures.

Candle & Globe Bulbs

Candle Bulbs are so named because they mimic the shape of a candle’s flame. You’ll find them in exposed fixtures like chandeliers and sconces to show off their shape. Our Candle Bulbs come in two shapes: BA10 and B10. BA10s have a tapered flame tip, and B10s have a blunt torpedo tip.

G-bulbs, or Globe Bulbs, are spherical bulbs that are great for decorative fixtures like bathroom vanities and hanging pendants. Our G25s are all equipped with 5 Switchable White shades of light and Medium E26 bases, so they make great upgrades in any room and in most household fixtures.

ST19s

Straight Tubular bulbs, also known as Edison Bulbs, are suitable for exposed and enclosed fixtures. Cree Lighting offers an Amber finish and a Clear finish on our ST19s for customizable look and feel and Medium E26 bases for easy upgrades in most fixtures.

T-Type

Our clear Tube-Shape bulbs are ideal for decorative fixtures like hanging pendants and wall sconces. Their white filaments are designed to blend seamlessly into decor while off and provide stunning illumination while on, making them perfect for dining rooms and living rooms.

Bottle & Twist

The Bottle and Twist bulbs are our specialty shapes here at Cree Lighting. Their graceful forms and white filaments showcase advanced design that blurs the line between light and modern art. These are the bulbs you want if you’re looking to make a statement, and they’re sure to become the star of any room they’re in.

PAR Bulbs

PAR Bulbs, or Parabolic Aluminized Reflector bulbs, are like BR bulbs in that they’re often used for flooding illumination, but their beams are more focused, making them great for spotlighting. At Cree Lighting, we have two Super Bright PAR models, great for outdoor spaces, and all our PAR bulbs have Medium E26 bases for easy upgrades in almost any fixture.

R & BR Bulbs

R Bulbs are smaller Reflector bulbs that diffuse light for soft edges and are great for providing general room lighting in recessed or track fixtures.

BR stands for Bulged Reflector, meaning its insides are lined with reflective material to produce a wide beam angle. You’ll find these being used as floodlights outside and in recessed lighting inside.

MR16 Bulbs

MR16 bulbs emit a concentrated, directional beam of light and live in track and recessed lighting. Their compact size makes them great for aiming down at desks and highlighting artwork or feature walls. Cree Lighting’s MR16s come with bi-pin bases for easy installation, and some have Twist Locks, a subtype of bi-pin that’s extra secure for high-vibration areas like laundry rooms and garages.
